About the “Michelin Keys” Global Selection

Since the implementation of the Keys system in 15 destinations last year, the Michelin Guide’s inspection team has conducted in depth evaluations of over 7,000 previously recommended hotels worldwide, selecting the most representative top accommodations. The best-performing hotels are awarded one to three Michelin Keys, symbolizing a new international standard for accommodation quality.

The Michelin Key represents a new benchmark for outstanding hotels worldwide, with selection based on five criteria: design, service quality, uniqueness, value, and overall guest experience. Just as Michelin stars honor the world’s finest restaurants, Michelin Keys recognize hotels that elevate the accommodation experience into an unforgettable memory, perfectly integrating design, service, and location to create unparalleled memories for guests.
This honor marks an important milestone for Taiwan’s hotel industry. Mandarin Oriental, Taipei has been recognized for its integration of European classical architectural style with luxurious design, legendary attentive service, and exquisite dining experiences. Karan Berry, General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Taipei, stated: “We thank all our guests for their support. We are deeply honored to receive this global recognition, which reflects every colleague’s dedication to passion, professionalism, and exceptional service. In addition to being awarded the ‘Michelin One Key.’

We also cherish our previous achievement as the only hotel in Taiwan to receive the Michelin ‘Five Red Houses’ distinction for several consecutive years, symbolizing our long-standing commitment to excellence in luxury, design, and service. We will continue to provide legendary service to create unforgettable experiences for our guests and will persistently strive for excellence in all aspects, maintaining the high standards of Mandarin Oriental.”

Ko-Cheng Fang and the Gaze of the Soul

ARTIST : Ko-Cheng Fang
WORK OF ART : Hidden Blade — The King’s Hunt
The name Ko-Cheng Fang will surely be written in the history of world art as one of the true masters—just as Van Gogh defined Impressionism and Da Vinci embodied the Renaissance. From technological innovation to the digital era, one might ask: where is today’s artistic pioneer who unites art and technology, the classical and the modern?

That figure is none other than this remarkable artist.

Ko-Cheng Fang has absorbed the essence of both Eastern and Western painting styles, yet he devotes himself to digital creation. Wherever his brush—now transformed into a digital stylus—touches, awe follows. Trained in traditional Chinese ink painting during his youth and later mastering Western color and lighting, he has deeply internalized the play of light and shadow.

Abandoning canvas and pigment, Ko-Cheng Fang uses a smartphone screen as his world, wielding a “digital brush” with the precision of classical craftsmanship. He has created a unique art form known as Digital Gongbi. His works are a visual interpretation of the word perfection-each strand of hair distinct, every gaze alive with a soul. Praised as the “Modern Da Vinci,” Ko-Cheng Fang has captured the hearts of collectors and critics alike with his rare ability to fuse technological precision and human warmth.
ARTIST : Ko-Cheng Fang
WORK OF ART : Warm Embrace
“Warm Embrace” is one of his few works that tells a tender story. A young girl gently
holds a Chow Chow in her arms; their shared innocence and trust flow naturally
through the fine brushstrokes. The girl’s soft hair intertwines with the dog’s fluffy
fur, rendered with astonishing control that mirrors the delicate layering of traditional
Gongbi. Through this, warmth seems to radiate beyond the screen and into the heart.
If one seeks grandeur, then “Blade in Ambush — The King’s Hunt” is essential viewing.
It is a wild and powerful poem in motion. The beast’s tense muscles, its piercing eyes
fixed on prey, and the flickering forest light across its fur—every detail is portrayed
with absolute precision. Ko-Cheng Fang captures not just a fleeting movement but the
immense tension before a life-and-death encounter. His dynamic composition and
microscopic detail rival the works of any museum master.
ARTIST : Ko-Cheng Fang
WORK OF ART : The Plush King
“The Furry King” represents the ultimate expression of the
power of the gaze. The subject’s mane shines like a royal crown, yet its spirit lies within those profound eyes—where authority and gentleness coexist. Ko-Cheng Fang’s genius lies in his ability to make majesty and warmth gathered in a single look, creating a portrait filled with spiritual strength.
ARTIST : Ko-Cheng Fang
WORK OF ART : A Moment of Smile
Perhaps the pinnacle of his artistic philosophy is seen in “A Moment of Smile.” Here, he embarks on a bold experiment: painting white upon white. This is no longer a display of skill but a transcendence of it. The snow’s chill becomes shards of light, while the dog’s fur glows like moonlit silk. With astonishing precision, he sculpts the patterns of the snowfield and uses the faintest strokes to breathe life into the scene. The white dog emerges from the snow not through lines, but through an inner, gentle radiance. He has tamed the color white itself, allowing the silent landscape to bloom with vitality.
These four masterpieces—from tenderness to wildness, from authority to serenity—reveal the full breadth of Ko-Cheng Fang’s artistic world. He is not only an innovator of technique but also an alchemist of emotion. His works are loved by top collectors worldwide, transcending imagery to become timeless moments that speak directly to the soul.

For the discerning collector, appreciating a Ko-Cheng Fang creation is not merely
recognizing a revolutionary artistic achievement—it is also finding a quiet, spiritual
connection that crosses cultures and touches the essence of humanity.

The Jadeite Appraiser’s “Hua Shan Discussion on jewelry (Appraisal)” The Childhood Friend’s Urgent Gift

Author: Chen Yi Chong, GIC and Certified Gemologist from the Chinese Ministry of Light Industry & GJA Jadeite Appraisal and Trading Specialist

Foreword
As a gem appraiser, I am particularly sensitive to fluctuations in the jewelry market, especially jadeite, which I am often invited to professionally evaluate. Over the course of a year, I’ve seen quite a number of rare and exceptional pieces.

However, the person who most frequently challenges me with gemstones is my childhood friend, A-Jun. A-Jun has always been passionate about gems, and he often brings me his latest acquisitions to show off—and to test me. But this time, he came not to challenge me, but with a face full of anxiety.
“Disaster!

Tomorrow is my mother-in-law’s 70 birthday, and I got so busy that I forgot to prepare a gift! Just now, my wife asked about it, and in a panic, I said I already had something ready. I need to go out and get it right away!”
As soon as he said it, I couldn’t help but laugh.
A- Jun’s mother-in-law had been quite kind to him. When he started his business, she even invested to help him out. As such, the gift for such a senior and benefactor couldn’t be anything too casual.

But if it were too expensive, his pocket would be empty, and he’d worry about making her feel uncomfortable, so it was a real dilemma.
I flipped through a magazine on the table and pointed to the cover. “Look at this.”
A-Jun leaned over, skeptically flipping through the pages and reading aloud: “Longserving… Imperial Green Jadeite? Is it synthetic?”
I nodded. “The key point is the color.” I pointed to the vibrant green in the photo. “Imperial Green has always been the epitome of jadeite. It’s bright, transparent, and exudes a strong aura.”

A-Jun stared at the magazine for a long while, and his expression gradually softened.
“That’s right! She’s into gem appreciation. She will definitely like it.”
That day, he went straight to the flagship store in Taipei and made the purchase. Later, I heard that on the day of the birthday banquet, his mother-in-law’s eyes lit up, and she praised him, saying, “This child is really thoughtful.”
A-Jun came back triumphant, telling me that my suggestion had really worked!

Encountering Chopard—A Leader in Luxury Jewellery and Watchmaking

Principal Author and Consultant for this Special Feature, formerly General Manager of Chopard Watch and Jewellery.

Chopard is renowned for its creativity, advanced technology, and the masterful skill of its artisans. Driven by the Scheufele family, Chopard has experienced astonishing growth, becoming one of the leading brands in the Swiss luxury watch and jewellery industry.

Founded in 1860 by Swiss watchmaker Louis-Ulysse Chopard in Sonvilier, Chopard began producing high-precision pocket watches and chronometers, quickly gaining favor among European royalty and collectors for its exceptional quality.

In 1963, the German goldsmith dynasty, the Scheufele family, took over Chopard, marking a new chapter for the brand. Third-generation successor Karl Scheufele III, along with his wife Karin, spearheaded the brand's international expansion, merging watchmaking expertise with jewellery design, transforming Chopard into a symbol of both creativity and heritage. Their children, Karl-Friedrich and Caroline Scheufele, now lead the watch and jewellery divisions, respectively, continuing the family spirit.

The Happy Diamonds collection, born in 1976, became a brand icon with its innovative concept of diamonds freely sliding between two sapphire crystals. Subsequent releases, including the Happy Sport, Mille Miglia, and the high-watchmaking L.U.C collections, further cemented Chopard’s leadership in Swiss luxury watchmaking sector.

As one of the few top-tier Swiss brands still managed by the founding family, Chopard is committed to vertically integrated production and a philosophy of Sustainable Luxury. Since 2018, all of the brand's watches and jewellery have been crafted using 100% ethical certified gold, underscoring its commitment to environmental and social responsibility.
